○ Hwaum Chamber Orchestra

The Hwaum Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1996, based on the “Ensemble Hwaum”, which was established in 1993.

“Hwaum” does not signify the harmony of musical notes, but the harmony of art and music. Hence,
“Hwaum” auralizes vision and visualizes hearing. With this, the Orchestra proposes a new experience of paradigm,
where these two elements are combined.

Art director Park Sang Yeon and the first class musicians of this orchestra, each of them possessing great energy as a solo musician,
strive for a strong unity as an ensemble. The Hwaum Chamber Orchestra refines music with “high quality dynamic and passion” and attracts with distinct sounds.
Its repertoire includes baroque to contemporary pieces; especially the “Hwaum Project”, consisting of 170 compositions,
shows their unique world of music. Performances, which take place not only in concert halls, but also in various galleries throughout Korea,
display the harmonic experience of art and music.
Tongyeong International Music Festival, invitation to the Poland Penderecki Festival and other festivals in Korea and abroad are only a few of the orchestra´s activities.
Since 2011, it organizes the “Hwaum Festival”, which can be called the cradle of Korean contemporary music,
where compositions of the Hwaum Project are collected and performed.
The orchestra is highly praised and received the grand prize of the year 2005,

in the division for music, and the “Performance Art Award” by the Korea Arts Management in 2010, etc. and counts to one of the best Korean performing groups today.
This year, the Hwaum Chamber Orchestra plans to “expand the value of Hwaum” and therefore reorganized their contents and created the “Hwaum Museum”.
Cultural and content values of the Hwaum Chamber Orchestra that were accumulated for 20 years will be adapted to the values of the new generation.

○ Hwaum Project

Different art genres or academic fields are actually only structural phenomena;

it is impossible to confine various mental and intellectual activities of free human beings.
The attempt to eliminate and fuse borders does not only rather provide space for each genre to develop, but also opens doors for many new paths.
The Hwaum Project signifies that pieces are composed with the inspiration of art pieces and performed in exhibition facilities.
However, in regards of concepts and impressions, performances are presented in various forms.

○ Hwaum Project Festival

This program aims to spread the Hwaum Project.

Pieces written by Korean composers should be introduced in Korea and the whole world during this unique festival.
The Hwaum Project focuses on premieres and reenactments and might mix some classical music if necessary.

○ Hwaum Critic Award

All programs of the Hwaum Projects aim to seek after the truth, which means the realization of consistent values.

The direction is always set towards humanities, and this is - at the same time -the main goal. To promote criticism in Korea
this award was founded to foster a future group of critics and to develop a realistic alternative later on.

○ Hwaum Curation

The Hwaum Project consistently reinterprets and reproduces pieces.

To reduce the strain of putting it up on stage every time, it is managed online.
If a piece obtains attention and interest,
it will participate in the Hwaum Project Festival. This also means, that this program prepares and administers all pieces,
until there are hundreds of Hwaum Project pieces.
